Completed master study of Madame Matisse by Henri Matisse 1907.

oil on canvas 31x 40 inches

I felt an intimacy with this painting. I can't express how much elation I felt as I painted her. I left her eyes and lips for the end; and then when I added them she came alive for me. I haven't felt this way before about a painting. I can't wait to begin a new painting with my own subject.

  1. Great work! Congratulations. Some pieces really do connect don't they?

  2. Ai Says:

Gorgeous work, Marta. I know what you mean. Sometimes, you don't want to let that painting out of your sight.

  3. Sandy Says:

She is hauntingly alluring! I DO feel the intimacy you have with this piece and your new medium - Bravo girl!! I can't wait to see what's next either!

  4. Desiree Says:

Hey GF, I am so excited for you! this looks great! Where will she hang in the house??? You did a great job, I can't wait to hear what the comments from the students and teacher will be. The picture of her in your studio is great, she really makes a statement! The owner in this house owns a Matisse!

  5. Very nice job on this!

  6. Linda Says:

She is absolutely BRILLIANT. YOU are absolutely brilliant!
    How wonderful.

  7. Anonymous Says:

  8. Oh wow!! You have EXCELLED with this painting. Your dedication in your classes is inspiring, keep up the terrific work.

  9. Sharon Says:

I've enjoyed watching your progress on this Marta. I've had a postcard of this painting on my bulletin board for years. (Ha! Just noticed the Obama image on your wall..I also have THAT on my bulletin board!)

    Wonderful job on the painting.

  10. Anonymous Says:

Not only is she and the painting beautiful, but I see a resemblance between you and the subject of the painting. They say we always are painting ourselves, no matter what we're painting, and I think this proves it. Your oil technique seems really good in this painting.

I'm helping a friend set up a blog for her wedding and I tried to find the template you're using but couldn't even find Blogspot. took me to blogger. I love the design of your blog so much. Did you create this or is it a standard template?
