This I did not finger paint. One night at the cabin my sister and niece Grace brought out their alcohol inks to decorate some card stock. I was fascinated by the process and thought I'd just try dripping some colors and alcohol onto some card stock. This reminded me of road kill splatter and thus called it 'Frog splatter on windshield"

That trip last week to Long Beach vis the train to LA for a connection, was for my appointment with my opthamologist for follow-up after my visit with the cornea specialist a couple of months ago. The news not so good and he agrees that surgery would be too risky and my vision is to the point of me not doing my job safely. So he has decided that I need to stop working so I guess I'll begin the process soon. This has been very hard to accept and the future doesn't look too bright either with the high possibility that I will not be allowed to drive either. As for my art.....well, I would be happy even if all I could do was finger paint!

The Bishop Wears Red

This is sort of an experimental art piece. Saturday was my niece's confirmation into the Catholic Church. I had a leather-bound journal I bought while out shopping with my friend Robyn in Florence. I haven't used the sketchbook much because I don't like the paper for art work. But this blind contour turned out nice so today I scanned it and then colored it in photoshop. Now I want an art tablet because I think I could have a lot of fun with this!
The end of school is just weeks away. I feel as if I am taking steps backward because every time I put something on paper, it's awful. I should have progressed by now. I have to go through all my school work and pick my best for a final critique and presentation of a final project. I'm looking forward to the slower pace of lazy summer days.
A quick update on what's going on in my life. The menopause symptoms have subsided but for 2 weeks now I have been on my period (with a 4 day break mid way). I think there is still some adjusting my body has to do with the hormone therapy. This of course has left me feeling "drained" and the running is suffering.
This morning I went for a nice run but had a stray puppy join me. Of course I had to cut it short because the pup kept going into the street and almost got hit a few times. People were giving me dirty looks and one woman stopped her car to yell at me to put my dog on a leash!!! With all that bad karma I just came home; the pup following someone else. Two hours later a knock on the door asking if it was our dog (she looks just like my Dottie). I didn't have the heart to leave her out and possibly get hit by a car. So now she's in the back yard and I guess I have flyers to make and post in the neighborhood. I don't want another dog!!!
On a sad note; Brittanee died Sunday morning. The little girl who defied death till the end is now in heaven. She touched so many lives while battling her disease for the past 8 years. I have to believe she is whole again and laughing and playing with angeles.

fountain pen, noodler's ink on 90#HP Fabriano artistico wc paper
My friend Clara is one of those loving and giving souls who are just a lot of fun to be with. Although she lives close by we don't see each other as often as we should or would like to. She has a beautiful historic home here in town which is a lot of fun to meander through and explore. Around every corner you find something you haven't seen before and it's always so much fun to 'discover' at her home. And it is a home because you are always made to feel welcome and feel you can just curl up and pretend that it's "your" house!!!

Last Christmas Clara hosted our Quilting Group's Christmas Potluck. A group of about 40 of us gather for the evening to enjoy a good visit and to eat! We exchange gifts and begin planning our next quilt camp weekends for the coming year. This year Dianne is hosting the party at her beautiful home....but alas, there will be no skinny dipping in the hot tub as the pool is not quite finished yet.
Last year Clara had picked my name for the gift exchange. I was showered with several wonderful gifts like a super soft sheepskin throw which sits draped across the bed. It is referred to as 'the sex blanket' (no explanation needed). Among the goodies was this very classy cup and saucer which I keep in my china hutch and bring out when I want to sit and enjoy a nice cup of tea. I smile when I think of how wonderful it is to have so many good friends, Clara among them.

I am early on Monday Show and Tell

I'm going to jump in early for Sandy's show and tell Monday because I work on Monday and my day is un-godly long. This past week has been a bit difficult but life goes on. So today Rudy and I went into Pasadena, California for the afternoon because it's the last week of the Maynard Dixon exhibit at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. I love his work and especially the era during the depression. I have been fortunate to have seen some of his work over the years at other museums but today was treated to working sketches as well. My favorite piece I must say was this graphite sketch of Charles Lummis. I studied it carefully and saw the care he took in rendering the face with all it's subtleties and then contrasted that with the bold lines of the clothing and form. For an instant I imagined I was peering over his shoulder as he drew this.
The rest of the afternoon we wandered old town Pasadena and I treated myself to new art supplies at Dick Blick, then to lunch at Gaucho Grill which is my favorite Argentinian restaurant where we had Sangria and empanadas! A nice way to end an otherwise bad week.

I'm not sure if there is a theme to follow or just post what ever you feel like posting on Mondays. Sandy of Sandy's Monday Show and Tell has this Monday thing going on so I thought I'd participate this week...since it's Monday. This is a self portrait I did about 10 years ago from linoleum block that I carved. I carved 3 separate blocks for each color and then carefully inked them and pressed each one being careful to line them all up correctly. It was a fun project and I've gotten lots of use out of this image. I really should track down the linoleum blocks and maybe print up a few more!
