For Shirley

Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 5:18 PM
My friend Shirley over at Paper and Threads posted her lemons yesterday stating a desire for having some lemon squares.   I love lemon bars but had never made them.   With a tree heavy laden with juicy Meyer lemons I asked her for her favorite lemon square recipe.  She so kindly sent it my way in this morning's email.  Wonderful opportunity to bake on this rainy day and to practice another gouache painting.   Also my first try at a watercolour on hot pressed paper.  A bit different from working on cold press but a good experience also.  Thank you Shirley for the recipe!  You are all welcome to have one.  Please tell me how you liked them!

    Marta,
Both of these paintings are fabulous!!! I love the lemon color, the reflections on the cake stand, the lemons on the plate. I can taste one right now just by looking - and there are no calories!

  3. Wow, Marta!!! You've done a fantastic job of painting BOTH of these. Looks like you did a fine job baking too!! I LOVE lemon bars and am so glad you've got the ones with calories.

  4. I agree, fantastic job on this Marta! Composition and palette, just lovely. I want one of those slices - with the calories.

  5. I meant to say the gouache suits you very well - and it is only a step away from oils!

Oh Marta these look absolutely delicious!
I am sat here with my mouth watering, one of those would go wonderfully wih my hot coffee right now...I adore lemon cake!
Your paintings are both beautiful, so free and loose and full of your lighthearted spirit.

Both these paintings turned out great. Composition and colors are beautiful. And what a lucky lady you are to have a Meyer's lemon tree in your yard. I pay a fortune for those lemons, when I can find them!

Oh, Marta! You temptress. You know how much we love nummies and there they are, where we can't get to them. Drat! LOL.
The paintings are fantastic! I'm really enjoying seeing how your gouache paintings are coming along. What brand are you using? And how are you liking it?

  9. Great job, I am close enough to invite over for coffee and lemon bars ya know!!

Thank you all, glad you are enjoying the lemon squares! The gouache I bought was a 12 tube set by Holbein. I already know I need to buy more white! I am hoping to get a better handle on gouache and use it at the next figure session.
Dianne, Annie and I are doing art this afternoon, come by for cafe and lemon squares....I have way too many!!!

  12. Oh, stop it! Now I'm just dying for some sweet sweet lemon bars. These paintings are just lovely, bright, bold, and altogether charming. I can see these find, and it's still a mystery why I can't see your things on Flickr. I don't have you blocked.
