Memories of my boy Brandon

Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 11:17 AM

This is a youtube video my friend Cori sent to me. Her son  Brandon  is part of the video. He was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just a year old.  Brandon is doing well now...wonderful in fact. He's like 8 or 9 years old now!  I had a hard time watching it. I saw my boy hurting,  I recognized my hands and my stethoscopee in his little hands. I thought some of you might like to see what I used to do. I miss my pediatric nursing career but relish that there were wonderful outcomes like Brandon's.

Cori's note to me:
" Everyone who was involved in the video went to view it on Thurs night before it was posted and I just started to cry, it was really hard to see my baby like that. You know for 2 or 3 of those photo's you were there with me. The one with the wash rags on him, you were the one who gave him the medicine stuff that made him start to go into shock. I don't remember what it was, I wanna say it was gamma or something, I didnt write that down. I also don't remember why he was going to need it, but I remember there were possible problems to go along with it and they happened!
And the other picture with his lines being flushed, that was you flushing them. Yea, it brings so many memories back for me too. Very hard memories I don't like to remember, but also such wonderful memories. Like meeting you! "

Making a Glass Palette

Friday, September 12, 2008 at 8:48 PM

I put this little movie together to demonstrate how I made my new palette for my adventure into oil painting.  This is a brand new exploration for me and I'd like to take you along if you care to come along.

We had a great time in San Diego the past few days. Annie loved the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit at the San Diego Museum of Art and the Eleanor Antin Historical Takes exhibit. We had a nice lunch at the Prado overlooking beautiful gardens. Later, Annie had fun watching the koi in the lily pond in front of the Botanical Building while Shon and I sat and sketched .

We grew weary after the long day, deciding to skip the zoo and instead headed to Amy's apartment, which she so graciously offered while she was having fun in Las Vegas with her Seth. We soon fell asleep and woke to a beautiful summer day on Thursday.

The morning was cool so we skipped the kayaking and went to the tidepools at Point Loma. Oh what fun we had splashing in the surf and picking up sea shells. Annie a bit disappointed that we couldn't bring them home but satisfied to take photos of our treasures to later sketch and then return them to the ocean.

We finished off the adventure with a drive over the Coronado Bridge and a drive through the area, stopping at a lovely park for lunch under massive trees. Onto Seaport Village for a short shopping trip before heading home.

My Fireman Rudy

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 6:18 PM

Rudy's fireboat station was featured in the local Long Beach Paper with a video and article.  Click HERE to see the video of my cute old guy.  He is at the beginning of the video holding a hat.  I'm very proud of him and try not too worry too much when he goes off to work for a few days.

Skipping Stones

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 5:52 PM

On our first day at the cabin Grace and I went for a walk to the creek.  She wanted to show me how she skipped stones in the water and I gave it a try also.  Once we'd exhausted our supply of small flat stones I sat to do some sketching.  Of course I had extra supplies along in case Grace wanted to sketch; which she did

.

We sat in a clump of wild geraniums and choose those for our subject.  We used the scrap wc paper I had brought along for her and my travel set of Neocolours.  We quickly lost ourselves in conversation while we sketched.  The wolf-dog that had accompanied us on our walk finally came and plopped himself down next to me.  I had a new friend.

Tornado in Riverside, CA

Friday, May 23, 2008 at 8:39 AM

Yesterday it was a strange day, and no Dorthy, we are not in Kansas.  A few days ago we were sweltering in triple digits and yesterday after a nice sweaterless morning the day grew colder and stormy.

I was at work all day and even there the events of the day were very unusual.  Several 'dramas'  played through; one being that I caught my 17 year old patient smoking in the bathroom with mama's approval.  Yes, I've seen it all!

Outside it was a different story.  As the television warning came on in the patient rooms the parents and kids began to tell us of a tornado hitting in Riverside (where I live ).  We quickly all became glued to a television and my manager and I realized quickly that it was right in the area where we live.  Both of us had difficulty reaching our families via cell phone or land line.  But eventually I got through to Aaron who slept through it all.  Fortunately, Rudy was not hitting golf balls at the course just a mile from where the tornado hit but out at the mall, oblivious to what was happening.  Everyone safe.

In  a short span of time yesterday evening we had a tornado, hail storms, rain at 1 inch/hr and snow!  The tornado turned over a big rig truck and flipped a cargo train off it's tracks!  The footage above I found on youtube and was filmed about a mile from my home.

Yes indeed, it was a very unusual day.

The Gonzales' European Family Vacation 2007

For the holidays Amy's boyfriend, Seth put together this DVD of our trip to Europe in October 2007. What a special gift! It's taken me a few months but I figured out how to copy it into my itunes library and into Youtube. Hope I did it right and you can all see and enjoy it!

Robyn thinks Christmas came early to my house! She asked if I would be posting a picture of my new toy but how about instead a project I created on my new imac? Dianne came over because it's no fun to have a new toy and not have a a friend come share in the fun! We checked out something called photo booth....here is the result of such exploration in mac land.

Monday S&T

Monday, August 27, 2007 at 8:19 AM
This past week has been fun and exciting in our family. Yesterday my niece Allison got married to her sweetheart Charles and they became Mr. & Mrs. Charles Jones. We have all been hanging out together at my sister's house helping put wedding favors together, practicing makeup techniques and in general being a family. The wedding went off beautifully and a good time had by all......including my husband Rudy.
My show and tell this week is Rudy; the love of my life. Allison and Charles have a one year old; Aidan who just loves Rudy but tolerates me. Yesterday Rudy dressed the little boy for his parents wedding, he danced with him in his arms, he even took him to the men's room for diaper changes. Rudy will someday be a great grandpa! He is also a great dad and him and my Amy have this private joke between them: he dances to "I like big butts...." for her whenever she comes to visit. Yesterday she asked the DJ to play 'Baby Got Back' and we coerced him to dance. Please enjoy as we all did.

California Mission in San Diego, California

Monday, May 28, 2007 at 2:13 PM

On Sunday Rudy and I went to Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala - California's First Church. It was nice to attend Mass solely for the purpose of going. The past few years it seems the only time I enter a church is for a funeral...humm..but this visit was nice and I might do it again. I learned it was Pentecost Sunday and they said it was the birthday of the catholic church. So maybe it was the perfect day to wander back in.

I got lots of great photos for sketching, but with my DH who doesn't sit still for too long, I was only able to take photos. I hope to return to the mission soon because it had great sketching potential!
