I gave it another go tonight...using me as the model. Gosh, I look so old, mean and tired!

Since my studio walls are full; I need a place to thumbtack my thoughts, sketches, photos....whatever.

You have alot of expression here and it is good practise, even though you didn't completely capture the real pretty hearty "you". A selfportrait is by default almost always severe and this is a difficult medium...I think you did great in using it!

Self portraits...Hmmmm...in a league of their own!
I think you may have captured how you felt here Marta. I know when I was doing self portraits it took me weeks before I could break through all the boundaries and emotions to end up with something that resembled a true likeness of my 'looks' but each and every one had 'me' in them in some form, my thoughts, my fears, my likes, my dislikes, my emotions....It is THE most interesting and thought provoking subject I have ever worked with and I urge you to continue. I must have another bash myself.
This is a beautiful drawing, well done working light over dark, not an easy task!
Well, I do think this set of drawings shows you working out a difficult task, and the self portrait works as a portrait even if it doesn't catch whatever 'essence' you would like. White on black is the way I have to think when doing lino cuts - the opposite of water colour - all good exercis for the brain, I suppose.
I always do that too when I do self portraits - trying to be 'honest' you focus on little wrinkles and things that hardly show to other people. You are much cuter than that! That said, it's a difficult medium to use for a portrait - I like to ad both darks and lights on mid-tone paper - I think it's easier than just working with the lights.
Well you are dang serious looking here, which I am sure captured the moment quite well. I bow to the other very experienced artists above and yet I have to say, Wow there is a ton of expression here!! You are certainly stretching your artistic muscles in this class
Hi! Marta: I love your portrait. Please do one with the Happy Marta! This is so good.

It's a good drawing but you're much prettier than HER...
she is not in a good mood...

I tried to comment on this a few days ago and failed. I think my computer is rebelling against IE7. We ALL look mean in self-portraits. It's the way we hold our mouths when we're concentrating. I've seen your photo and I know you dont' look mean.
