A day with Aaron

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 9:27 PM
I haven't done any sketching in my handmade sketchbook in such a long time!  Today my Aaron and I spent the day together going first to the Bower's Museum in Santa Ana, California and then to Mission San Juan Capistrano; with a stop in between to Sterling Art for supplies and a nice lunch.

I had time this evening to watercolor the sketches from the Bower's but my eyes tired before getting to the ones of the mission.  I am not pleased with my painting; I think my lack of has suffered past couple of months.  I overworked the african figure as well as the other two.

It was nice to relax and spend time with my boy.  This was an assignment for his World Religion class, but I think he enjoyed the day with his mom.

You are being too hard on yourself! These are lovely sketches and for those of us that didn't see the originals, they are fresh, lively, and composed well! Please also share the mission sketches - such alot of work for one happy day!

Your sketches are "retebién"! Not overworked at all! I like the looseness in your style!

I love your sketches, especially the statue with a robe. Wonderful!!!

  7. So beautiful, Marta! I had the oddest feeling while looking at these---it was that Casey and I were also there, sketching along with you. Not that our styles are similar, but the last time I sketched in a museum, it was with Casey in Paris. Your sketches transported me to that day. Thank you.Oh, another thing! The expression on the face of the Mayan figure is so similar to that of a figure I drew at the Musee du Quai Branly---must be the same era! THAT explains why I thought of Casey and me drawing! What fun!
